The Entrance

It’s a grey day, but escaping to The Entrance on the Central Coast for a bite to eat for lunch at the Waters Edge Restaurant on the Azzurro Blu Wharf , and a stroll along the water’s edge, up to the Ocean. The Entrance, as it suggests is where the ocean flows into Tuggerah Lake. A little sunshine breaking through the cloud, but windy and cold. Reached the far end of the boardwalk, and had to hurry back, as it started raining on us. Ahhhh, another wonderful day on the Central Coast.

South Burleigh – Jebbribillum Lookout and Tumgun Lookout

Another lovely sunny day, so wandered down to South Burleigh and headed along the Ocean View Lookout Track, up the mountain to Jebbribillum Lookout and further around the headland to Tumgun Lookout, on the North Burleigh National Park headland.

North Burleigh Beach – Surf Carnival

The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships North Burleigh Beach, also known as the “Aussies”, is an annual event where members from Australia’s 314 surf clubs come together to compete in more than 400 beach and ocean events – Sat and Sun. Felt so very sorry for them, days of work preparing for the carnival, and it poured all day Saturday. BUT Sunday turned out perfect, a sunny sparkling day for them. Also markets have been setup along the promenade walkway from North Burleigh to South Burleigh – so many people. Apparently 1-7 April, the carnival moves up to Boardbeach.

Miami – Mick Schamburg Park Lookout

Still drizzling, but need to get out of the unit, so went for a walk up to Mick Schamburg Park Lookout – bit of a walk up the hill to the lookout, but worth it. The lookout is just north of North Burleigh Beach, up on the headland. Looks north over Nobbys Beach all the way up to Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise. Can only just see the edge of the southern end of South Stradbroke Island. Looking south over North and South Burleigh Heads Beaches, the mist has rolled in. Rain getting heavier, time to return to Mariners.

Miami – Mariner Shores Unit

Mariner Shores, at Miami in Queensland – a great unit, has everything we need, with the balcony overlooking North Burleigh Beach. Unfortunately the weatherman says we are in for numerous days of wet weather. Ah well, nothing you can do about the weather. And the sky already starting to show the grey clouds, and then it poured. Followed by a beautiful rainbow.

.
.

A little bit of fun on a drizzly day, the sun even peered through the clouds for a short time – and then down it came again – heading for cover ………

A couple of locals dropped in for an early morning swim – staff had to chase them away with the water from a hose

Miami – Mariner Shores

Have arrived at Mariner Shores, along The Esplanade – opposite North Burleigh Heads on the Queensland Gold Coast (region). We tend to go backwards and forwards on the viability of time share ownership, but have had a week here for over 20 years now. When working found it useful. With constant projects at work, you tend to keep putting off holidays due to deadlines etc. With a timeshare, if you don’t take the time you could lose it. There are other avenues open to you, such as organisations where you can “spacebank” your time, for use at other accommodation places, and build up limited amounts of time for extended holidays. Have to admit the place has been kept in very good condition, with regular upgrades, and considerable facilities. We haven’t tired of Mariners as yet, so guess we’ll be coming up here for some time to come.

Currumbin – Swell Sculpture Festival

Our last day in Queensland, had to drop in and have a look at the annual Swell Sculpture Festival, along Pacific Parade at Currumbin, before we head south.

.
.

At the northern end of Currumbin Beach, is Currumbin Alley, with Lillson Beach and it’s southern breakwall to the north, with views up north to Surfers Paradise. Haven’t been around this area, next time we are up here, would like to have a look around.

Currumbin – Currumbin Beach

A little further south of Palm Beach, is Currumbin, with northerly views to Surfers Paradise. The waterway in front of the breakwall and beach is known as Currumbin Alley – the ocean feeds into the Currumbin Creek. At the northern end of the beach, someone was flying a big kite – looked great. The locals were getting ready for the annual Swell Sculpture Festival by the sea. Will have to come back tomorrow when the festival commences, to check it out.

Palm Beach – Tallebudgera Creek

At the Tallebudgera Bridge, over the Tallebudgera Creek, turned into the car parking area near the Tallebudgera Recreation Centre. Wandered along Tallebudgera Creek Park, to the boardwalk, and down to the end of the breakwall. When the tide is out, there is a large exposed sandbank on the northern side of the Creek. At the end of the breakwall, you have a great view north over the Burleigh Head National Park (headland), back down Tallebudgera Creek, and along Palm Beach, as far south as Coolangatta.

Surfers Paradise – Macintosh Island Park

Going to check out  Macintosh Island Park at Surfers Paradise. Parked at Narrowneck Beach car park and walked across the Suspension Bridge to Macintosh Park. Beautiful park area with the Nerang River on the east, pathways, little creeks through the park, bridges, children’s playground, tables and seats, amenties buildings, a little waterfall on the rear of Bigfoot’s Cave, and a Peacock enclosure (a little pond and fountain), and lots of birds. The peacocks are roaming through the park – stunning colours, just wonderful.
